I love the Reverend Brendan Powell Smith. I love him because I love his creation, The Brick Testament, a pictorial Bible done with Legos.
Here, for example, is a scene from the story of Sodom and Gomorrah:
Tell me: how could anyone not pant for the author of such a work?
The tagline for his Web site is “Blaspheming heretic with a heart of gold” — really, what’s not to love about that?
If you go to the actual Aramaic, there is an argument in rabbinic circles that the men of Sodom didn’t want to have sex with the strangers, they wanted to take their possessions. Sodom was destroyed because it was inhospitable, not sexually perverse. We perpetuate anti-gay sentiment if we don’t challenge mistranslations.
But, yeah, the lego things is really cool.
Is it just my eyes, or has your font changed?
A friend of ours who teaches at Seabury Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL, has a project going on to supplement the Brick Testament with a history of the Early Christian Church. Here’s his life of Polycarp to start with. Eventually the project will have its own front page and links, etc.
And as his blog says, he’s ” one-sixteenth polar bear.”
hehe. these lego men are incredibly funny.
I really rather fancy the oh-so-butch one on the left. The one with the stubble the scar and the pitchfork – well tasty!
have “sex” with them…. from the expressions on their faces, these guys obviously mean “hate fuck” them.
I own this book. I *love* this book. He has more, but I don’t own them.
