Two days ago I rented the first two DVDs from season one of Desperate Housewives, a show I had never seen before I pressed “play” on my computer.

And, having finished the first eight episodes, I see now what an empty, meaningless husk my life was without this program in it.

How is it possible that any of us found any fulfillment or real beauty in the world before this show?

And I haven’t even gotten to the pool scene yet.

Please, no spoilers in the comments.

OH MY GOD! I cannot believe that you had not seen this show until now. I mean, I live in Belgium for crying out loud… and even here it gets quite an audience (on a Friday night, even!). I heard the second season is not that good, but since only a couple of episodes have made it to the screens here, it’s too early for me to judge. Enjoy the show though, I believe it’s one of the better shows to come out of the U.S. since Roseanne & Frasier…

    and oh: Happy New Year!

mother was scandalised when i insisted on watching this show. something about it offending her catholic sensibilities. however, in the end, she too was hooked into the goings-on on wisteria lane.

Don’t get too excited until you get to season two, which has so far been mediocre and had very few shirtless hot boys.

  6. Your life may very well be devoid now of vacuousness with DH. I am quite amazed to see that such a well-rounded and knowledgeable person such as yourself hadn’t encountered the hilarity of DH until late 2005/early 2006. In any event, should you want the remainder of the DVDs, I have the full set of the first season which was received as a gift that I would be more than happy to lend you.

A very happy and fulfilling New Year to you Doctor,

    A.B.

As one who was a late convert as well (I’m late to a lot of parties… like, I just discovered this here haven of a blog), I welcome you. I still haven’t been able to make it through the last disc of the first season, partly because I don’t want to have to wait forever for season 2, but I will catch up soon. Fabulously soapy viewing, with an edge and naked ladies in bushes.

I thank you for my first gift of 2006, a mild sense of superiority.

Sadly, the pool scene was not as satisfying as I thought it would be. But the rest of the show is, in a word, amazing.

There are only so many hours in the day, and I’ve already made my choice: I must stick with Gilmore Girls as my one and only TV obsession.

See, girlfriend, I told you you would love it! Sometimes pop culture isn’t all that bad… 🙂

It was FABULOUS to spend New Year’s with you and Jennifur! I was so glad to finally meet you and that the four of us could hang out and pretend to be real adults. 🙂

You’ll always be my favorite matzah belle! 🙂
