The Search for Love in Manhattan

September 29, 2004

Tonight I almost told E.S. that I loved him.

Then I didn't.

Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant only taste of death but once.

Despite the $24 thesaurus sitting on my desk, I believe that the only proper response to such a statement is

"AAAHHHH!!!1!1 OMG OMG!!!1!!1!!"

why not?!!?!??!?! what are u waiting for ?!?!?!?!

Just do it....

4) quote said (on 09/30/04 at 02:48 AM):

Pew - why didn’t my mother marry my father?

She never had time. He came and went.
Why didn’t Babel Dark marry Molly?
He doubted her. You must never doubt the one you love.

But they might not be telling the truth.
Never mind that. You tell them the truth.
What do you mean?
You can’t be another person’s honesty, child, but you can be your own.
So what should I say?
When?
When I love someone?
You should say it.

I've always waited for the other guy to start saying it. I'm in my fifth relationship, and have never been the first to blink.

Good thing I've never dated someone exactly like me.

6) Ria said (on 09/30/04 at 07:21 AM):

I'm pleased to see that others have beaten me to give the same reply !

i. bendito and the wonderful quote from Jeanette Winterson.

Just WHAT is the problem in saying something if you feel it ????

Can anyone explain this ?

7) Mr.D. said (on 09/30/04 at 07:34 AM):

Hiya Faustus.

My blog is almost a year old and was initiated* by the news that the curse of cancer had been laid on a very good friend.

No-one knows for sure what tomorrow may bring, so do what you can today.

*That and the honour and pleasure of guest-blogging with you on Troubled Diva's site.

8) jon collins said (on 09/30/04 at 08:39 AM):

ummm, doesn't E.S. read the blog? So aren't you in effect telling him that you love him already by saying how you're afraid to say it but want to?

9) James said (on 09/30/04 at 09:01 AM):

Oh, for Christ's sake, JUST DO IT.

10) Jeff said (on 09/30/04 at 10:27 AM):

My dear, sweet, neurotic friend, I'm sure you realize he knows this already -- and feels exactly the same way.

11) brechi said (on 09/30/04 at 06:04 PM):

so tell tim tonight :)

I'm jealous, I'd love to say that to someone.

12) Kevin said (on 09/30/04 at 06:14 PM):

I must ask, has he uttered the word yet?

13) tim said (on 09/30/04 at 08:56 PM):

brechi,

Faustus should tell tim that he loves him. It's the least he could do after all the help I have given him lately. Right, Faustus? :)

14) Ivy said (on 10/ 1/04 at 03:31 AM):

Someone's got to do it first. It's either you or E.S. You owe it to yourself. You owe it to the fact that you feel it. You owe it to him as well.

By the way, I've been following your blog and you are hilarious! keep it up.

15) quoter said (on 10/ 1/04 at 03:41 AM):

It's friday...either Faustus told E.S. and enjoying the results...
or...
died from suffocation whilst stammering the words...

16) mike said (on 10/ 1/04 at 07:22 AM):

The first time I said it, I didn't even know I was going to say it until after I'd said it. It just popped out of my mouth - late at night, lights out, about to go to sleep - and I think it took both of us slightly by surprise. Which was nice.

17) Kelli Cox said (on 10/ 1/04 at 09:25 AM):

well...if he reads this blog...then you already told him!

18) Velma Biggers said (on 10/ 1/04 at 10:31 PM):

Sweet Jayzuz, Faustus. Just say the words, will ya.

19) jennir said (on 10/ 4/04 at 04:00 AM):

at ur next blog, u should be updating us on whether u hv finally said it or not!

20) Scott said (on 10/ 5/04 at 11:44 PM):

For the love of God, HOW long have you guys been seeing each other?

Say the f*cking words!

21) Adam875 said (on 10/ 7/04 at 01:19 PM):

Do you not love him anymore? Because I assume you still do, in which case "I almost told ES that I love him" is a little more appropriate.

I guess true love messes with the grammar of even the best.

22) JP said (on 10/ 8/04 at 10:27 PM):

And this brings me up to date. I have, over the last couple of weeks, read your entire blog and now feel I'm entitled to something. As I'm both heterosexual and female, I assume sex is out. Any ideas?

And, for God's sake, tell him already.
