Don’t worry, even before e-mail and instant messaging people have used abbreviations like ttfn (ta ta for now) and tx (tahnks) to sign (with a pen that is).
I can’t love you anymore…just kidding. Such things can be forgiven while IMing. Like you said, it’s casual.
