I’ve written before about the crack house a couple doors down from me. Since I last mentioned it, it’s been busted by the police several times, the last one apparently very effectively, and sold for an amount of money that made it clear there was fraud going on.

Well, earlier today it caught fire.

Nobody was inside.

It’s funny: As I write this I’m trying to figure out the funniest way to comment, and I find that I can’t. I mean, lots of funny things are occurring to me to say, but something about the raw, destructive, elemental power of fire leads me to hold my tongue.

I feel like such a moron for not remembering this, but isn’t one of your favorite words a word that has something to do with setting your neighbor’s house on fire?

BTW, didn’t you just get nominated for an award? What’s with the sudden attack of modesty?

Ucalegon? And since it appears to mean a neighbor whose house is on fire, you don’t even have to be an arsonist to have one.

At what point did you invite all the firemen over for lemonade?

it’s also kind of sobering to see all those dedicated firefighters risking their lives over what was probably some kind of insurance scam. it’s like you’re seeing the best and the worst that humanity has to offer, in one place.
