So the reason that E.S.’s parents moved in with us is that his father is dying of esophageal cancer and this way the family can be together during his last days.

There is much to say about this, obviously, but for the moment I’ll confine myself to remarking that I’m happy to be able to have him here.

And that the house now smells like sick person.

That must be awful for everyone. I hope that the family is able to draw as much comfort as possible from being together at such a difficult time.

I am sorry that ES’s father is terminal but I think it’s very good that you guys are able to be together. I lost my sister to cancer 10 months ago and we took care of her at home. Though it was a very difficult experience, at the same time it was comforting to be able to be with her and ease her into death. We were all singing as she took her last breath. Might have looked weird in a hospital but that’s how we do it in our family.

    Love and blessings to all.

I’m fighting a terrible urge to be flippant, so I’ll restrain myself and wish you all the best in this complicated situation.

I’m so sorry to hear of terminal illness in the family. One of the nastier varieties of cancer, too. I do hope you have hospice care with appropriate pain relieving medication to ease his transit across the great river.

This is what real love looks like, Faustus.

When all is said and done, you will forget that the house smelled like sick person, and you and E.S. and his mom will remember that you opened your heart and home to his parents, and he got to have his dad close at the end. That’s all that matters.
