I heard an interesting story on NPR pointing out that her campaign has actually branded her as Hillary, and consistently refers to her that way in the press, on the website, etc.
Bush goes by “W” for the same reason Hillary goes by her first name — to differentiate between their political parent/spouse.
There is historical precedent: “I like Ike”
you could chalk it up to being famous for something else before running for office (winning WWII, putting up with bill clinton). Still, I can’t help but think that sexism has something to do with it.
Personally, I’m voting for Laura Roslin. But I would never call her just “Laura.”
