Okay, so the kids who sell candy from 48-count boxes on the New York City subways? Usually peanut M&Ms but sometimes other stuff as well? And they used to say they were selling it to raise money for their high school basketball team, which would have been more believable if it hadn’t been 10:30 in the morning on a Tuesday? And now they say they’re not selling it to raise money for a basketball team but merely to keep themselves off the streets and get a little money in their pockets, and they’re keeping it real?

Where the fuck do they get the candy?

I mean, I’ve kind of always assumed that they steal it, but I realized today that this has been going on long enough that somebody at the warehouse should have wised up by now.

Yeah, I don’t think they steal it themselves. But someone else is and has quite the racket going on.

Those kids should be hanging out near the movie theaters and selling their wares.

Thats where the big money is!

OK Economics 101: you can buy one of these 48 packs of M&M’s for like $18, maybe cheaper if you get a wholesale deal. You then sell them to the clueless on the subway for $1 each, instant profit of $30, that is not including the suckers you get for $2, and the gullible old ladies who just hand over the cash. You then make sure you re-invest into your inventory for the next day. Seems like small potatoes but then if you can push 2 or 3 of these boxes in an afternoon, you start getting somewhere near a real money. It’s all about the hustle; they are promoting the entrepreneurial spirit So the next time you see them, help a brother out!

I’m intrigued by Todd’s explanation. In fact, I think I may change careers. First, I’ll head to Costco and see what kind of deal I can get on these boxes of candy, but I think he may be on to something! 😉

I agree with Todd. Always thought they got that stuff at Costco. That still doesn’t explain why it’s almost ALWAYS peanut M&M’s.

Not from me. I used to eat all the candy myself.

Peanut M&Ms ……light, don’t melt excessively and the most popular candy brand item in America…..and at $1 a pack, not that much more than you pay in a store. I admire their spirit even if they do use the money to buy a gun and some crack .

Just kidding, everyone knows that Hersheys is the most popular candy in America.

Uh, ok, I’ll be the token dork who points out that people assume the kids stole the candy cuz they’re almost always Black kids. (I also admit I thought that too at first, but did Todd’s math awhile back & caught myself out).

I realize it’s not cool to take racism seriously anymore, but hey, I’m not a New Yorker anymore so I’m not cool anyway.

Honestly, i have no problems with a little bit of capitalism. I am just fucking tired of being chased, cursed at, and spit on for NOT buying candy or for ignoring them and their bull shit. I am tired of having my freinds chased and cursed out.
