I’m trying to figure out why it is that I haven’t found a single contestant on Top Model truly compelling since Yoanna from season two, which was the first season of the show I watched.

And why it is that I haven’t found a single contestant on American Idol truly compelling since Fantasia Barrino and Jennifer Hudson from season three, which was the first season of the show I watched.

The parallel is frightening. Am I destined never to be excited by a reality TV show after my first time watching it?

Of course, it could be worse; I could feel the same way about sex.

don’t despair, Faustus. One day, popculture will coincide with your preferences. and on that day, God’s chosen will ascend, and you Jews will get to watch reruns of lucy and seinfeld, while the goyim are forced to watch reruns of Family Ties.

  3. Logan: I did find Nadia incredibly exciting. The fact that she couldn’t sing just got in the way a little bit.

Anonymous: That is a reassuring thought. Unfortunately, I don’t like Seinfeld, so I’ll be reduced to being that jerk who always wants to change the channel back.

While this AI season has inspired less devotion to a contestant, it has brought me to the point of hatred more than ever toward one Scott Savol. My tuning in each week had more to do with the fear he would end up winning a la Richard Hatch than with the desire to cheer anyone on.

Now I’m watching out of habit. And I’m lame.

I am a junkie. Showdogs Moms and Dads, the Surreal Life, Amish in the City…Arrested Development & Shameless… of course C-Span and The Daily Show.
Living in South Carolina one must find one’s own amusement.

I’ve never watched ‘Top Model’ but I’m with you on ‘American Idol’. There’s no one this season that holds a candle to Fantasia. It’s just so blah.

Better hope this syndrome doesn’t catch on with people buying your book. You’ll never be able to sell another one.

It’s fantastic by the way and has already been a popular gift to some friends.

Oh, I totally agree with the Yoanna thing. I particularly loved her because she was the only one literate enough to read the Tyra Mails. Don’t know if you know, but this site has some awesomely hilarious recaps of the ANTM episodes. The ones by Djb for S1 & 2 (the only seasons that matter in my opinion) are great.

What!!! You don’t feel anything for Bo Bice?! Hmmm…I may have second thoughts of buying your book. Just kidding! Already ordered it and I can’t wait for it to arrive.

Now really, Bo Bice…anything at all?

It appears that reality TV ceases to be real after the first season you watch it!

    Whoa.

Really? I loved Tiffany – she was the only one who said, “I never understand Tyramail so I just don’t bother reading it.” I mean she was really funny sometimes. I missed the first three seasons so maybe it’s all fresh to me. This season the drama isn’t as present as last season but what about the girl who was always crying and then her skin started to rot off and everyone decided it was ebola or something. So funny.

BTW: an article from the LA Times might appeal to you, as a STEP teacher:
