I am working 10-6 for the next couple of weeks, assisting a composer during rehearsals of her show

This is the first time in a very, very, very long time that I have had anything even remotely resembling a full-time job with a regular schedule (as opposed to the patchwork of part-time and freelance work with which I currently keep body and soul together), and I’m so exhausted I want to die.

I don’t know how anybody manages it.

The only way to manage it is to eat a ton of food and drink gallons upon gallons of fine wine. I can help you on both.

    We don’t. It manages us.

  3. Tim, eating a ton of food has never, ever been a problem for me. So I don’t need help on that score. Though perhaps the fine wine will help me drown my sorrows better than Diet Dr. Pepper does. Patch, would you care to join us in the food and wine?

Somehow, your body adjusts to the schedule. It may seem impossible right now, but after a couple of weeks you will (somehow!) get used to it. In the meantime, hang in there and take care of yourself!

You remind me of Des Esseintes. If you haven’t already, go pick up Against Nature by Huysmans. ;D

We complain about it all the time with our co workers. But we all know that we LOVE our job or the mere prospect of having one. So it works out in the end.

If you work 7:30-4, you won’t actually wake up until halfway through the day, and everything goes much faster.

The mental clock will tick in, then you will get used to the long working hours.
Just remember to give yourself some relaxing time when You get home… like a nice hot bath with bath salt and oil and candles all over – or just watch TV while having a bowl of nice freshy celery salad.

Or you can always take a 15 minutes nap at the bathroom stall during work. I do that some times.

Faustus, it would indeed be lovely to join you and Tim in the food and wine festivities. Please forward my invitation to the appropriate parties.
