Just under a year ago, I renamed my hard drive Elizabeth Bennett so it would serve as a reminder and an aid in my quest for clarity of thought.

Now that I have a new computer, it seems appropriate to give my new hard drive a name that will again serve as a reminder and an aid. The thing is that, these days, I feel I have perhaps too much clarity of thought, and that what I need in my life is something else entirely.

I’m thinking of calling my hard drive Auntie Mame, but I’m not completely convinced that that’s right.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

You need some audacious conspicuous indulgence. How about Donatella?

Too much clarity of thought? Clearly you have to name your hard drive Rose Nylund.

If Rose Nylund isn’t your first choice which is absolutely fabulous I would go for Appollonia LaFredericka. It combines things associated with Prince, Los Angeles and Frederick’s of Hollywood.

    How about Mortimer Snerd?

    I vote Anna Madrigal.

Somehow, “a man and a girl” seems perfectly appropriate. Though I agree that Rose Nylund is an excellent option as well.

Rose Nylund all the way . . . she is the perfect foil to clarity of thought.

My hard drive is Miss Muffet’s Tuffet.

The following reference may be a bit before your time, but how about Mrs. Beasley? When you pulled her string she said, “I’m tired.”

I’ve been staying out of this because Michael provided the perfect and unsurpassable answer way back at the very start. But since no-one else has backed him up, let me do so now: Becky Sharp! Becky Sharp! Becky bleedin’ Sharp!

Joshua of http://www.crabwalk.com names his hard drives after characters in A Confederacy of Dunces. I tend to go with the literary character names, myself.

Yes, yes! Blame it on Mame. Although Lizzy Bennett is so charming and witty and she talks back to her superiors and gets the guy in the end….
